Kathmandu, 19 February 2026 – The Embassy of Israel in Nepal facilitated the visit of Prof. Dr. Avraham Rivkind, Israel Prize laureate and renowned trauma and emergency medicine expert, from 16–18 February 2026.
During his three-day visit, Prof. Rivkind shared Israel’s expertise in trauma care, mass-casualty management, and disaster response with leading Nepali medical institutions including Bir Hospital, National Trauma Center, Dhulikhel Hospital–Kathmandu University Hospital, and Patan Hospital. He also held a nationwide virtual session with medical professionals.
Prof. Rivkind met officials at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to discuss strengthening Nepal’s disaster preparedness mechanisms. He also interacted with Hon. Sunita Dangol, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and Hon. Dr. Anjan Shakya, Member of the National Assembly and Former Ambassador to Israel, focusing on future medical cooperation.
Looking ahead, Prof. Rivkind expressed interest in supporting Nepal’s pre-hospital emergency response system through the introduction of bike-ambulances operated by trained first responders.
H.E. Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass stated that the initiative reflects Israel’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and supporting Nepal in trauma care and emergency preparedness.
Prof. Rivkind had previously assisted in Nepal during the Annapurna Avalanche, while Israel also deployed a 260-member field hospital team following the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.
